David & BeBe
My personal journey with PTSD began when I quit self medicating with alcohol in 2009. The nightmares, flashbacks, and depression that followed were isolating. I paid more attention to the effects of PTSD in my life rather than living my life outwardly directing my attention to other people including loved ones. Since entering service dog training with BeBe, my life has changed in that I am now outwardly directing my attention to BeBe and all the people in my life.
Life with BeBe is a symbiotic relationship. I take care of her and she takes care of me. Interestingly enough, I am training her with the help of my trainers at Soldier’s Best Friend and she is training me at the same time. We both enjoy learning new tasks and there is a good feeling when there is a meeting of the minds between my dog and myself.
Thank you Soldiers’ Best Friend. I did not know when I started this program how much it would mean to me.
