Dan & Athena

Dan was a Combat Engineer in the Army Reserve from 2003-2016 and is a decorated war veteran. He deployed to Iraq in 2006-2007 where he removed and disposed of 163 IEDs in Ramadi. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during his tour, when the IED he was working on exploded. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2010-2011, where he also conducted over 80 combat route clearance missions. He was awarded the Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious service.

Since joining Soldier's Best Friend, Dan has been able to experience a reintegration into society with Athena at his side. He's even taken a job at a Middle School where they interact with hundreds of teenagers daily.

Dan has said, "SBF has really pulled me out of my comfort zone and has helped me in countless ways, most of all through growth and having the support of Athena to help keep me grounded when my PTSD shows its ugly face.

This really has been a life-changing program for me, and I look forward to seeing what obstacles and challenges Athena and I can face together."
