Richard Dawson
Richard was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts, and was adopted at the age of seven before being raised in Middleborough, Massachusetts. In 2004, he joined the United States Army as a Military Police Officer, serving on active duty with the 8th Military Police Brigade at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and later with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. During his military service, Richard deployed to Mosul, Iraq, and Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he served in support of combat operations.
After transitioning from military service and relocating to Arizona, Richard experienced homelessness from 2013 to 2014. Determined to rebuild his future, he enrolled at the University of Phoenix, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with a focus in Management.
Over the past seven years, Richard worked with U.S. VETS assisting veterans in transitional housing and supportive service programs. Throughout his career, he has helped veterans navigate housing resources, employment opportunities, VA benefits, medical and mental health services, and long-term stability planning. His lived experience, military background, and dedication to service have fueled his passion for supporting veterans during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys music, movies, video games, and spending time with close friends. He takes pride in continuing to serve the veteran community and believes strongly in the importance of connection, resilience, and giving back to others.
