Darryl & Ziggy

After serving 22 years in the Marine Corps and making the difficult decision to retire, it hits you. You realize you are leaving an organization that you have been a part of since a young man.
No veteran ever sees him or herself going into battle or combat or being near a war zone.
For me, I had that experience and lost some very special Marines that I served with.
I struggled to find footing and life balance after leaving the Marine Corps and dealing with my personal life situation as well as having the survivor’s guilt of losing fellow Marines.
I finally had the courage to reach out for help and receive counseling from the VA. I can’t thank Dr. Reza, my Psychologist enough who recommended I get a service dog and referred me to a Soldier's Best Friend.
Although my first dog did not meet the qualification for the program, Ziggy did. I am so proud of my dog and his love for me.
Ziggy has stepped up to the challenge and has become my best friend, my buddy. Ziggy is my little shadow and follows me around the house and I every move. He never wants to be separated from me.
Thank you SBF for what you do.
